2024 - 2025 Sessions

DLI is committed to equipping our NYCPS community with high quality instructional practices for digital learning & AI literacy. 

Our Professional Learning series aims to build capacity on AI & Digital Literacy for district teams, administrators, coaches and educators. This aligns with NYCPS's commitment to DCEP Priority # 3: All students have a high-quality academic experience for future readiness.

Enhancing Literacy & Social Studies w/ Adobe Express & AI Tools

  • Audience: Educators, Coaches, Admin, District Leaders

Description: In this session, we'll guide you through the essentials of using Adobe Express, covering how to access and log in, as well as an introduction to the all-in-one editor and its translation functions. You'll also explore generative AI tools and how to find and use templates, stock assets, guided activities, and webpages tailored to your subject area. Our team will adjust the focus based on your audience, providing hands-on time to create student portfolio webpages. The session will highlight how AI and digital literacy can enhance content-specific instruction in ELA/SS, Math, and Science, improving learning experiences for general education students, MLLs, and SWDs.

Please Note: There is a maximum capacity of 25 spots for each session.

Leveraging AI Tools to Improve Efficiency

Description: This session offers a foundation for artificial intelligence and its connection to teaching and learning. We aim to demystify AI and make it accessible to improve efficiency in administrative tasks, enhance lesson planning, and align with NYCPS guidelines. We'll start with the ABCs of AI, introduce practical and instructional skills, and highlight use cases from NYCPS-approved tools. Specifically, we will also focus on how AI can improve asset-based learning and promote students' discourse in various subject areas. Whether you're a novice or have some familiarity with AI, this session will enhance your understanding of AI and set you up for a successful journey.

All participants will receive CTLE credit

NYC App Design Challenge

Description: Apple is proud to support and uplift the next generation of student developers, creators, and entrepreneurs. The NYC App Design Challenge is a citywide coding competition that gives thousands of students the opportunity to showcase their creativity and build real-world skills that they can take into their careers and beyond.

Become a coding champion. Join us for the NYC App Design Challenge kickoff to learn more about free resources available to educators to help student developers use Swift to create the next generation of groundbreaking apps.

Prepare students 13 years of age or over to compete in the NYC App Design Challenge. Students will compete in borough-wide App Design Showcases with winners from each borough advancing to the citywide NYC App Design Challenge Showcase at Apple Fifth Avenue.

Borough App Design Showcases will take place in January 2025, and the citywide NYC App Design Challenge Showcase will be in February 2025.

In this kick off session come learn more about coding, creativity, and app design resources for educators and students.

Cybersecurity Education w/ Minecraft

  • Audience: K-12 Educators
  • Event Type: Virtual

Description: Join the playful Cleverlike Studios team for two virtual 90-minute sessions to deliver the Minecraft Cybersecurity Progression to your K-12 students. Participants will engage in immersive learning activities and gain confidence to use the cybersecurity curriculum in their classroom. After completing this workshop, attendees will immediately access resources to implement Minecraft cybersecurity learning with students.

AI Fundamentals for Teaching & Learning

Description:

This session offers a foundation for artificial intelligence and its connection to teaching and learning. We aim to demystify AI and make it accessible for educational purposes.

Creativity Institute w/ Adobe

Description:

This course aims to help K12 educators use the principles of great instructional design to become creative thinkers, design innovative and engaging learning materials, and bring creativity into any class for all students.

Artificial Intelligence Explorations for Educators w/ ISTE

  • Audience: K-12 Teachers, Technology Coaches, Curriculum Designers
  • Date and Time:
    • Cohort 1: February 12 – April 7, 2024
    • Cohort 2: March 11 – May 5, 2024
  • Event Type: Virtual & Self-Paced

Description:

This 15-hour, asynchronous instructor-led course will introduce educators to the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and its application in classroom environments through presentations, examples of practical uses, tools and resources for implementation.

  • 15 hours of CTLE Credit
  • 1 Graduate Credit that can be applied to the second salary differential (the plus 30 hours)

Digital Literacy in the Classroom w/ ISTE

  • Audience: K-12 Teachers, Technology Coaches, Curriculum Designers
  • Date and Time: January 11 – June 30, 2024

Description:

This 5-hour, self-paced course guides educators in developing and utilizing digital literacy skills to support learners’ development as digital citizens across the curriculum. 

 

It also includes a self-assessment and resources on key skills on navigating, consuming, creating and communication information online.

ISTE Certification for Educators

  • Audience: K-12 Teachers and Librarians
  • Event Type: Hybrid

Description:

ISTE Certification for Educators focuses on pedagogy, not on tools or devices, and is designed to change your educational practice, whether you’re a classroom educator, instructional designer, library media specialist, technology coach or in another role. The process combines 10 weeks of professional learning and then a six-month portfolio application and review process.

Blended Learning Institute w/ BrainPOP

  • Audience: School Teams, Coaches, and Administrators

Description:

In this immersive institute educators will learn how to effectively incorporate BrainPOP's digital resources into their instruction. They will understand pedagogical best practices to personalize learning with the goal of increasing achievement in math and ELA.
