As artificial intelligence (AI) continues advancing and integrating across society, our school district has an imperative to foster ethical AI literacy for all learners. AI offers immense opportunities to enhance teaching and learning outcomes, but also presents risks related to bias, privacy, accessibility, and others that we must safeguard against.
To start this journey, the Division of Teaching and Learning’s Digital Learning and Innovation team in partnership with the EDSAFE AI Alliance is launching the K12 AI Policy Lab. This collaborative effort brings together stakeholders across every NYCPS Division to review, study, and draft K12 AI Policies with a comprehensive perspective towards safety, data security and privacy with a focus on ensuring equity for all users. The policy work is guided by the EDSAFE AI SAFE benchmarks framework.
